Locals Dog Owners To Lap Up New Dog Park

Eltham will get a new off-leash dog park as part of the Victorian Government’s $15 million investment in greening Melbourne’s growing suburbs.

Environment Minister Lily D’Ambrosio announced Eltham’s dog park as one of the successful first-round projects, giving dog owners much needed green space for recreation, relaxation and spending time with their pet - and importantly, other dog owners.

The announcement forms part of the Suburban Parks Program which will include $35 million for developing 25 pocket parks and $5 million to establish 16 new off-leash dog parks. Another $10 million will help revamp parks and reserves with playgrounds, landscaping, toilets and picnic spaces.

The new dog park, the location of which was the sole recommended site by Nillumbik Shire Council, will be situated at Wattletree Rd in Eltham North and will be completed by late 2021.

“Being stuck inside the last few months has taught us the value of open green space to stretch the legs, clear the head and get some fresh air – that’s what this investment delivers.”

“This is a community which really loves their dogs.  Having a space just for dogs to exercise and socialise is also great news for their humans who will also have the opportunity to meet other dog owners, further strengthening community relationships.”
