Crime's Pointing Down
The Andrews Government is continuing to tackle the problem of crime and the results are good news for the communities of Eltham and Yan Yean electorates.
Locally the overall crime rate reduced again this year, in Nillumbik by 2.4% and in Banyule by 6.2%. Some of the headline numbers include a reduction of Burglary/ Break and Enter offences down by 18.8% in Nillumbik and by 13.6% in Banyule.
We know that there is ongoing work to be done to not only reduce crime but also reduce the rate of reoffending. The Andrews Government is working to rollout new a pilot program to employ 50 former prisoners on major projects in a bid to reduce reoffending. https://ab.co/332IkZv. This includes employing former prisoners on the much needed Metro Tunnel.
Victoria Police is working hard on the beat, including the additional 3000 new police officers funded by the Andrews Government. Reducing crime needs to be a whole of government response, which includes record investments in TAFE, new employment and training opportunities as well as additional mental health support.
Quotes attributable to the Member for Eltham, Vicki Ward MP:
