DIAMOND CREEK NETBALL SCORES BIG INVESTMENT

Netball facilities in Diamond are set for a transformation, thanks to a $3.4 million funding boost from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

Member for Yan Yean Danielle Green and Member for Eltham Vicki Ward today announced that two local projects are among 27 state-wide projects sharing in more than $68 million from the stimulus program.

This investment recognises the overwhelming demand for shovel-ready community sports infrastructure and is part of the Victorian Government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package creating jobs and kick-starting vital projects across the state.

The two projects include the Diamond Creek Netball Surface Upgrade ($1.9 million) and the Diamond Creek Netball Lighting Upgrade ($1.4 million).

Diamond Creek Netball Surface upgrade will see the existing asphalt-based courts removed and replaced with an acrylic plexi-pave finish. While the Diamond Creek Netball Lighting Upgrade will deliver the installation of four new light poles plus lights across another four sites. The five sites in total to receive new lighting are: Diamond Creek Netball Courts, Diamond Hills Reserve in Greensborough, Bridge Street Oval in Eltham, the Eltham Lower Park front oval and the Hurstbridge High Oval on Greysharps Road.

This investment is about helping grassroots sports communities get back in the game when the time is right.

From sports field lighting upgrades at multiple sites to new indoor sports courts, investments like these provide high-quality and accessible places for Victorians to reap the benefits of sport and active recreation participation.

By working with local government authorities, alpine resort boards, sporting clubs and sporting associations, the program is fast-tracking shovel-ready community sports infrastructure projects across Victoria which is expected to create almost $140 million in local economic activity.

This includes jobs in construction and supply chains with benefits for local businesses through the Victorian Government’s Local Jobs First requirements that will be built into contracts.

The program is part of the more than $915 million in Victorian Government investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014.

Ms Green and Ms Ward acknowledged Nillumbik Shire Council for its commitment and financial contribution to the project.

Quotes attributable to Member for Yan Yean and Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Danielle Green

“This investment is a big win for community sport. The funding for Diamond Creek Netball will support the local economy and create jobs – and support the large numbers of people in the Diamond Valley keen to get back involved in sport and recreation.”

“The new lighting upgrades - across the five sites - are a significant investment. We’re listening to our local clubs, who said they need better lighting to hold training sessions longer into the night.”
