Local Clubs Encouraged to Apply for Sport and Active Recreation Grants

Local sports clubs are being encouraged to take advantage of funding to upgrade equipment, boost skills and enhance overall operations.

Member for Eltham Vicki Ward today announced applications had opened for the latest around of the Victorian Government’s Sporting Grants Program.

The Andrews government understands that coronavirus restrictions have had a severe impact on local clubs both on and off the field. The grants provide clubs up to $1,000 for new uniforms and equipment, up to $5,000 for training coaches, officials and volunteers, and up to $5,000 to improve club operational effectiveness.

Access to these funds will help Victorians of all ages and abilities to get involved in grassroots sport, no matter where they live. The grants will be a welcome boost for clubs to reconnect their members and get back on track after the coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

The Sporting Club Grants Program is part of the Victorian’s commitment to make sport more accessible and inclusive, stimulate local economies, build sustainable sport and recreation and volunteer opportunities and increase local participation when it is safe to do so.

Since coming to office, the Victorian Government has provided more than 4,3000 Sporting Club Grants to clubs across the state, totalling more than $5.8 million. Earlier this year, twenty-four local clubs benefited from $1000 relief grants as part of the Community Sport Sector COVID-19 Survival Package.

Vicki looks forward to seeing how successful recipients make the most of these funds when they return to play.
