Local Parks Given New Life As Part Of New Upgrades Program
With so many parks and parkland in Banyule and Nillumbik, an important grant has been announced that will further improve these green spaces.
We know the value of local parkland has been reinforced in the past few months, as locals have stayed home to stop the slow of coronavirus.
The Andrews Labor Government has announced a $10 million Park Revitalisation Grants Program which delivers on commitments to create more than 6,500 hectares of parklands and trails across Melbourne – the equivalent of more than 170 Royal Botanic Gardens.
Park revitalisation forms part of the broader $154 million Suburban Parks Program and is intended to give local parks new life, promoting visitor numbers and welcoming new users.
Grants for councils will be to a maximum value of $300, 000. Councils will be required to contribute at least the equivalent of the requested amount towards the cost of the project.

“We have some fantastic open spaces in both Banyule and Nillumbik. Locals have told me they would like spaces for teenagers in our parks, improvements to small street parks as well as upgraded toilets and play equipment.
I encourage our local Councils to take advantage of this terrific grant opportunity that will enhance our local parks.”
